Location: Mt. Talinis, Negros Oriental
About Mt. Talinis
Mount Talinis, locally known as Cuernos de Negros or the "Horns of Negros," is a dormant complex volcano located in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. Standing at approximately 1,862 meters (6,109 feet) above sea level, it is the second-highest peak on Negros Island, following Mount Kanlaon.
The mountain is renowned for its challenging trails, dense forests, and stunning volcanic landscapes. Hikers can explore several crater lakes, including Lake Yagumyum and Lake Nailig, and witness natural wonders such as the Sulfatara sulfur vents and the picturesque Twin Falls. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding terrain, often shrouded in mist, adding to the mountain's mystique.

My Mt. Talinis Adventure
Day 1:
We commenced our journey with a steep ascent through thick forests, aiming for Lake Yagumyum. The trail was demanding, but reaching the serene lake made it worthwhile. After setting up camp, we explored Twin Falls and the Sulfatara sulfur vents, marveling at the natural beauty around us.
Day 2:
Our trek continued towards Lake Nailig, where we experienced the coldest night I've ever endured—a true test of endurance. The climb to Nacolon Peak was challenging but rewarding. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle on the descent, adding to the difficulty. Despite the setback, the breathtaking views and the camaraderie of fellow hikers made the experience unforgettable.
Day 3:
The descent was steep and slippery, but every step was worth it. Completing this hike left me with a profound appreciation for nature and a sense of personal achievement.
