I finally did it. After months of running, sweating, doubting, and pushing myself forward—I crossed the finish line of my very first 42K full marathon at the Hoka Trilogy Run 2024. And what a journey it has been.

How It All Began

It all started with a simple invitation from a close friend. They encouraged me to sign up for the Hoka Trilogy series, which included progressive distances: 16K, 21K, 32K, and the grand finale—the 42K full marathon in Manila. I didn’t think too hard. I just said yes. Little did I know this decision would shape one of the most unforgettable chapters of my life.

My "Not-So-Perfect" Training Plan

I’ll be honest—there was no strict plan. No fancy schedule, no professional coaching. I just ran. As much as I could. My only goal was to hit at least 40 kilometers a week in total mileage. It wasn’t easy juggling life and training, but every run, every sweat, every moment of discipline built up my stamina and mental strength over time.

The Trilogy Experience

What made this series even more special was the unique medal design. Each race gave us a medal that wasn’t just a prize—it was a piece of a bigger picture. When I received the final 42K medal, it didn’t just mark my marathon finish—it also held together all the previous medals, forming one massive, meaningful symbol of my progress. It was a beautiful way to see how far I had come, one distance at a time.

Race Day in Manila

The energy on December 8, 2024, at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds was electric. Runners from all over gathered, nerves and excitement dancing in the air. The route was challenging but scenic, and the support from organizers and spectators kept the spirits high.

The first half felt manageable, but after the 30K mark, fatigue started to settle in. My legs ached, my pace slowed, but I reminded myself: this is the final stretch of a journey I started months ago. There was no turning back.

The Finish Line and Fulfillment

Crossing that finish line was more than just completing 42 kilometers. It was the culmination of everything—early runs, sore muscles, doubts, determination, friendship, and commitment. The experience was beyond rewarding.

That moment holding my complete medal set, knowing I earned every piece, brought tears to my eyes. It wasn't just a physical achievement but a mental and emotional triumph.

What’s Next?

I don’t know where running will take me next, but I do know this: the Hoka Trilogy Run 2024 made me fall in love with the journey. It reminded me that progress is built step by step, and that sometimes, all it takes is one friend to get you started.

To anyone thinking of trying their first marathon or signing up for something big: you’re more capable than you think. Say yes. Start running. You just might surprise yourself.
