Fresh from the adrenaline of finishing the HOKA Marathon Trilogy, I dedicated the day to slowing down and soaking in the culture, history, and buzz of Metro Manila. It wasn’t a race anymore—it was a reflective walk through a city that carries both deep history and fast-paced growth.

Intramuros: Walking Through History

My first stop was Intramuros, Manila’s walled city. Despite the foot soreness, I was drawn into its charm. I strolled along Fort Santiago, paused at the Manila Cathedral, and admired the Spanish-era streets. The silence inside San Agustin Church gave me a moment of grounding after the marathon hype.

Rizal Park: Monument and Meaning

A quick walk from Intramuros led me to Rizal Park (Luneta). Here, I sat quietly at the Rizal Monument, where tourists and locals milled about. It felt like the right place to mentally cool down—where history meets open space and green relief.

Binondo: A Quick Bite in the World’s Oldest Chinatown

Next, I ventured to Binondo, known for its heritage and cuisine. I dropped by Ongpin Street, ordered fresh dumplings, and grabbed a bowl of mami from an old noodle house. The street food and Chinese-Filipino heritage were both bold and comforting.

SM Mall of Asia: Sunset and Seaside Stroll

As the sun dipped, I made my way to SM Mall of Asia (MOA). Not just a mall—MOA is an experience. After a light shopping round, I walked along Seaside Boulevard, letting the Manila Bay breeze refresh me. The MOA Eye and the golden-hour glow added a picture-perfect moment.

Bonifacio Global City (BGC): Modern Manila Vibes

From history to high-rise, BGC was my next leap. Sleek, clean, and full of life, it’s a different kind of Manila. I roamed around High Street, browsed shops, and appreciated the urban art scattered around. The shift in energy was stark—but welcomed.

Makati: Breakout Rooms and Brain Teasers

In Makati, I met some friends and we tried out a breakout escape room. It was a fun mental workout post-physical marathon. The surrounding area, filled with office lights and bars, offered a balanced mix of leisure and business life.

Other Notable Stops
  • Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) – Walked past for photos and admired its architecture.

  • National Museum Complex – Closed by evening but worth noting for my next visit.

  • Roxas Boulevard – Great for a scenic jeepney ride and city lights view.
